Is size really important?

I often wonder about the page sizes that most digital print devices can handle, trying to work-out of size really is an issue.

For a long time, SRA3 has been the go-to sheet size and most jobs have been run that way.

A few years ago, Ricoh made moves into 700mm x 330mm sheets, opening the doors for six-page A4 portrait, or 2-up A4 landscape applications.

Now everyone is doing it and some suppliers even offer ‘banner sheets’ up to 1200mm.

The main problem with 1200mm banner sheets is that registration control doesn’t exist.

Feeding is usually through bypass trays which leads to alignment issues. If they tell you that it doesn’t…ask them to prove it!.

Recently, I visited a Konica Minolta showroom to look at their new C14000 colour printer and the first thing that struck me was the length of the paper trays.

Three trays, each feeding up to 900mm x 330mm sheets.

That’s a lot of long sheets supporting more applications than before. Ballot sheets up to 900mm? no problem.
